I was thinking about this as a kid and to this day I am still not sure.
I am not sure what I would like to become but there are few things I would like to achieve in the coming years.
First and foremost, this summer when I graduate, I would like to find a job in a investment bank or some other respectable financial institution.
I would like to start making over $100, 000 per year in the next 5 years.
I would like to visit all seven continents in the next 10 years.
So my plan of action for landing a job offer is in phase 2 right now. Phase 1 was applying through Baruch's Starr Search web-site. Since nothing came out of that my next step is posting my resume on different job-search websites and also contacting my friends that already work for wall-street companies for advice as well as employee referrals which could help me get interviews with companies. If this doesn't work and I see that there are no offers coming my way I will start applying for internships since that is one of the ways of securing a job once the internship is over.
My goal #2 is closely realted to goal#1 since working in finance industry will enable me to either make such money through salary, investing or both.
As for the third goal, it is also related to my first goal in a sense that I plan on taking my family everywhere I go and I am sure it will be expensive so without making decent ammount of money it won't be feasible.

Thanks for the comment
Finding a good job right away is tough, so don't get too frustrated if you're not getting too many callbacks for interviews right away. Also I think your plan to try to find an internship first is also a good one because good companies want to see that you have experience in the field, so by getting an internship first will make finding the job you want a lot easier.
I believe that your dream of starting to make $100,000 over the next five years is most feasible and best fit for your future. As long as you work hard at what you do and never let up, there should be nothing holding you back. Trust me I know it is hard getting an internship since it is so competitive but hang in there and never give up, your time will come. Once you start making money all the others goals will come along with it. Good luck!
I really liked that you have very measurable goals! Also, you kind of layed everything out yourself in order of priority. First, you need to get a job or an internship followed by a job offer. Starr Search is a good place to begin and I think you should try applying for internships first because it will allow you to get some practical experience. Then you'll be able to start making money. After making decent living, you'll be able to travel all over the world and take your family with you. I think 10 years is quite reasonable to start travelling, but I would stretch that time limit for all seven continents so that you could spend some quality time in every country you decide to visit.
I’m with you on the making money vision, and I don't think you should worry too much because their are alot of people out there that don't know exactly what they want to do to make either money. All I know is, in order to make money you have to be ambitious and persistent. So it seems like you are taking the right steps by posting your resume and talking to friends. As long as you stay hungry, I’m sure everything will fall in place for you.
